Date With The Night | Week 42

0

It’s the 42nd week of a 52 week year which means by now you should have accomplished something noteworthy for 2013. If not you have nothing to worry about as we’ve compiled a list of events you can attend this week. Save the stamps or events bangles so you can show your mothers after this weekend that you have done something with your year.

It’s a Date With The Night

Friday the 18th

Public Telephone is throwing a shindig at The new Bohemian, which was once Tipsi Gipsi and Back2Basix before that. I think Bohemian management has got it on lock down now and they are surely there to stay. Go see that Bikini Weather guy from Shortraw do his side project thing with Public Telephone and his solo thing as Adventure Man. The Anti Retro Vinyls are also playing.

The guys from BeatNN have been championing the whole Hip-hop/Soul/Rnb/Chill/Beats movement in Johannesburg hosting regular events at Kitcheners. For the next instalment they are hosting special Cape Town guests, Christian Tiger School. The duo has one of the most dynamic electronic shows in the country, accompanying the usual DJ tech rider with live elements in the form of synpth pads, drumpads and a guitar with reverb for days. If you haven’t seen them live before I suggest you get to Kitcheners for this event as this may be one of their last performances before 2014.

Saturday the 19th

There were rumours hitting the rounds about The Bohemian closing down earlier this year and we were all crying about Joburg losing another premier live venue. But management was just changing headquarters and its lovely to see that they are continuing where they left off. On this day they are hosting Shadowclub, who recorded the video for Guns & Money at the previous address of the Bohemian. Bye Beneco and Go Barefoot are cast in the supporting roles.

It’s not any band that has the longevity to be the last one at the bar for a solid 16 years. Ska cult legends, Fuzigish, are launching their 6th album Crazy Friends this weekend at a venue with a whole bunch of history in its own right. It’s all going down at the Bassline and they’ve invited Facing The Gallows for that extra nostalgia factor. If you can only make one of these events, then this is the one you need to be at this weekend. Skank pits and mosh pits, with Lil Bow putting the cherry on top of the carnage.
