BOOSH is back and we’re giving away tickets

A case study for DIY

BOOSH has been around for quite some time. The DIY event hosted by Shortstraw has seen varied editions through its lifespan from the Bowls Club at Zoo Lake to the empty pool at Marks Park.

The appeal of the event was in it’s ability to draw the crowds that it did in what felt like an organic and gradual manner. It felt more like a family affair than a branded activation. That was because no big brands were involved which made it’s growth all the more gratifying.

Since it’s launch at Mammas Shebeen in 2011, the event has always been about the music and providing a platform for indie alternative artists to showcase their art. There wasn’t even a door-charge at any of the events up until the 26th edition where entrance was a paltry R20.

The event had definitely reached some level of cult status and it was a sore loss for Sundays in Joburg with the most recent edition taking place last year.

Over a year later the mighty Boosh returns wearing a new mask. Booshie Nights takes this Friday at was has become the home of live performance in Johannesburg; The Good Luck Bar.

The descriptions of Boosh have always been an enjoyable aspect of the event and Booshie Nights is no different; describing the event as “the first Booshie Nights, equipped with a healthily endowed lineup including electro wizards BITTEREINDER, new kid on the block, JOHNNY CRADLE, the ever-disappointing SHORTSTRAW, the sultry JOSH KEMPEN and new chubbers, THE CERAMICS.”

From 04-11-16 to 05-11-16

Remember at the end of Boogie Nights when you were dying to see Dirk Diggler’s massive hog to see what all the rage was about? And then it happened and you were all like, “Yessss. Finally. Ooh, it’s kinda nasty looking. And poor Rollergirl.” No, just us? Well it was a very liberating feeling finally getting to see something you’ve waited a long time to see. And much like a giant, purplish hunk of man flesh, we present to you: Booshie Nights.

Whoever ‘The Man’ is, he’s a bit of a dick. Because he’s made organising another Sunday Boosh quite a task. So we’re all like, “Fuck The Man, man. We’ll just do a nighty Boosh.” So here it is, the first Booshie Nights, equipped with a healthily endowed lineup including electro wizards BITTEREINDER, new kid on the block, JOHNNY CRADLE, the ever-disappointing SHORTSTRAW, the sultry JOSH KEMPEN and new chubbers, THE CERAMICS.

All this for 50 bucks at the most erect venue in Joburg, THE GOOD LUCK BAR. Man, there have been a lot of penis references in this post. Please don’t let this impact your decision to come. No, but seriously, it’s going to be a dicking good time.

“I’m a big, bright, shining star.”
