DATE WITH THE NIGHT | Week 41

0

Any week after a weekend spent either In The City or Rocking The Daisies will feel somewhat like a let down. But we need to be supporting our local acts with the same verve we just did Alt-J, The Hives and Boys Noize. You’re probably still broken or broke from the past weekend so take some time out and save some cash at any one of the events below.

It’s a date with the night.

Wednesday the 9th

The soils of Johannesburg are ripe for acoustic folk artists with new flowers blooming all the time. The latest addition to the bouquet is Chloe Layla who says she is influenced by a range of artists including Radiohead, The Cure, Adele, Daughter and even her mother. Join us at oDDCafe in Greenside for |Green| with your daily dose of acoustic indie. Music starts around 7.

Sticking in Greenside, The Fuss will be hosting their monthly event Why Not Wednesday? at Gin. That’s two parties for the price of none. Our resident DJ will be performing for the first time under his new moniker, POLYGAMY, marrying a collage of genres including chilltronica, house, disco, drum n bass, disco and trap. Also, we’ll be giving away a R300 bar tab to anyone who can find Bob for us. Why Not?

Thursday the 10th

Johannesburg is looking rather quiet on this day as most are headed up to Schivas Rock for what is being hailed as Neon Nuns. Once again this is a free party so the only thing you need to budget for is a designated driver with a full tank. With Shapeshifter headlining and Spookwolf on the visuals you can expect some serious bass in your face and pies in your eyes.

Friday the 11th

Remember when you turned 1 year old, how they never served alcohol at the celebrations? Well [SiRENSOUND] is turning one and there will loads of alcohol consumed. Need we tell that this is within your budget as they are kindly giving away 300 free tickets on their page. Nobody loves Drum n Bass more than Johannesbass so break your MiHouse virginities and take a trip into the city. Here’s the line-up.

Saturday the 12th

For the first time this week you’re going to have to pull your wallet out for Beef & Barley 4.0. But for a line-up which includes Half n Half & Musical Chairs, R40 is loose change. However, if it’s one R40 too far then pull through before 6Pm and get in free-of-charge. With open decks from 6 until 9 you can be sure that this will be the most versatile line-up you see all week. Bring extra dosh for the infamous Kitcheners Beef Burger & a speciality Beef n Barley craft draught to wash it all down.
