Self-titled sounds, from him, to you
As a new season approaches, a new wave of consciousness takes place. For many of us, we tend to hibernate or overcompensate our lethargy with stimulants that are generally dysfunctional and further their seasonal affective disorder.
This will not be the case when it comes to Guy Buttery’s album launch around Cape Town. In his sixth studio album, simply entitled Guy Buttery, he returns with a brand new approach to South African musical landscapes – seamlessly merging traditional musical genres with ambient and groove driven psychedelia, which are sure to ease the mind and improve the mood as the cold creeps in.
Supported by renowned guitar player Derek Gripper, bassist Shane Cooper and drummer Ross Campbell, this unique string of shows will celebrate the launch of Guy Buttery’s self titled album from him to you.
Guy has long been revered as one of the country’s greatest performers and fans will be delighted by the wide range of venues across Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape, with several more to be confirmed. Guy will be inviting numerous featured guests from the album to join him in concert, and for the very first time, with a full band.
The album is almost two years in the making and sees him collaborating with some of the country’s finest musicians, including Vusi Mahlasela, Dan Patlansky, Nibs Van Der Spuy, Shane Cooper, Derek Gripper, and Chris Letcher – as well as French based singer Piers Faccini, and one of Guy’s lifelong musical heroes, multi-Grammy Award winner and founder of Windham Hill Records, Will Ackerman.
A multi-award winning musician and one of the finest acoustic guitarists in the world today, Guy continues to bring his deep sense of musical understanding into his compositions – his songs are delicate, yet fierce, profoundly deliberate, yet still spontaneous and playful.
