It’s been only three weeks since Okmalumkoolkat released his highly anticipated debut solo EP, Holy Oxygen, yet this hasn’t stopped him from releasing what is the second music video for Holy Oxygen. Future Mfana aka Smart Mampara aka International Pantsula is truly infiltrating our timelines and colonising our minds with his phutu blend of popular culture and with indigenous flavour.
The video is a modern deconstruction of a traditional zulu ceremony which visually represents Smizo Zwane’s rich history, eclectic influences, and promising future in a way only the lens of Chris Saunders could capture. “The video plays with memory, reality and generational shifts, drawing on Okmalumkoolkat’s childhood experience of a Zulu cleansing ceremony that is performed on male members of the family prior to a funeral. “
