We welcome some home and embrace those visiting

Not to dismiss the fantastic and varied line-up of CTEMF (Cape Town Electronic Music Festival) this year, but what’s really consuming our enthusiasm and hype here at The Fuss is the fact that Petite Noir will be playing his first show on South African soil, to an audience that has tracked his growth, his career and his podium vibrating off a global fan base. Starry eyed for the talent, composition, confidence and presence Yannick Ilunga carries, we predict fans will pack into his set like it’s the sardine run in the Cape, spawning locals and tourists in synchronised energy, awaiting his personality and Noirwave psalms without the virtual adaption of them.

Besides for this highlight in the foreground of our minds, CTEMF have gathered a comprehensive assortment of acts based on different musical philosophies, tempos and performance types. The platform boast an array of electronic music, featuring hip hop, house, techno, electronica and all strains of bass music. Highlights include Detroit techno stalwart Rolando, French DJ/producer Chloé lauded for melding art and music, Berlin’s Ralf Kollmann, head honcho of powerhouse imprint Mobilee and Pretoria’s Aero Manyelo will administer a potentially lethal dose of house.

A large contingent of Cape-based artists make sure that the festival remains true to its name and aims of representing the city’s vibrant and varied electronic music communities. Sibot & Toyota will present their deft amalgam of bass, beats and attitude as well as hip-hop quartet Driemanskap who have taken their self-crafted “spaza” sound around the globe.

Headlining from a body of work from Europe, the UK and the US, we will have access to the best producers, DJ’s and musicians in their respected genres. Sitting in their portfolio of greatness, Nightmares on Wax will share a nuance that delivers us into a progressive jazz, trip-hop, diverse range of relative movements that get the shoulders rolling and the hips circling. With a positive air in all their tracks, we look forward to gleaming on the dance floor. Goldie is set to fuel the crowds with soulful drum n’ bass, celebrating the sounds the clubs gave us fresh off the breakbeat and rave scene. Detroit based DJ Rolando is set to pump his techno infused segments to keep the style alive and transform the crowd into a journey of free movement and desire.

CTEMF is the celebration of a scene coming of age. It marks the point at which the electronic music scene in South Africa has been globally recognized as an industry that has attained the state of being self-sustainable. To familairise yourself with the full line-up, venture here or below.
