CTEMF: The Workshop Programme

0

This is the opportunity to expand your perspective – to see what goes on backstage and in the studio

Broadening the scope of the music industry, CTEMF not only brings us a festival with a diverse range of acts from our own territories amongst other global ones, they also put together a powerful platform of workshops for the public to join in on and learn, network and walk away with some tips on how to break into the industry.

The Cape Town Electronic Music has teamed up with Red Bull Studios Cape Town: a space where thought leaders, pioneers, mould-breaking talent in all fields of the music industry get the chance to engage with those wanting to learn and experience more outside of the festival space.

Striving to be more than a celebration of all things musical and electronic, the workshops intend to make a contribution to the scene and industry while creating a space to reflect on the current state and history of electronic music globally. For these reasons The CTEMF Workshops distinguish the festival from virtually every other festival in the country.

The ‘Open End Sessions’ provide a fascinating insight into the histories of various electronic music sub genres and subcultures, their major players and early boundary-breakers as well as the heavy hitters and newcomers in the various scenes of the present.

Previous editions have heard the life stories of global and local pioneers, such as Cape Town vinyl legends DJ Superfly and Rozzano, techno innovator Richie Hawtin, mold-breaker Dixon, drum n bass superstar Goldie, dubstep don Caspa, noir wave inventor Petite Noir, the team behind Ikasi Experience and many more.

This year’s line-up is brimming with big names and the workshops will feature Cape Town’s biggest advocate YoungstaCPT, the UK’s first stars of dance music and Ninjatune founders Coldcut, a rundown of the Hardware of House (Roland’s famous TR808, 909 and TB303) and a chat with 021 Live – Fosta and DJ OD’s township dance culture movement. There will also be an opportunity for up-and-comers to get headshots taken and learn the basics of the worlds of music business and marketing with legends of the biz, Ready D, ANG and more.

Workshops will be held at Cape Town’s Red Bull Studios on Bree Street and Guga S’Thebe in Langa.
