The Fuss was at Boosh. We gave our phone to friends and total strangers with the front-facing camera turned on and this is what happened.
“Look at us. We’re at Boosh”
Lesego Moalusi
How many Boosh events have you been to? – “I’ve been to 4 Boosh events.”
Why do you attend? – “Purely to support the S.A. music scene.”
What does heritage mean to you? – “In short, being proud of where you’re from or your culture.”
Roy Bouwer
How many Boosh events have you been to? – “I’ve been going to boosh for a few years now so I’ve lost count.”
Why do you attend? – “I go for the bands, the people and the vibe.”
What does heritage mean to you? – “Heritage to me is my cultural roots which form the basis of who I am.”
Dani Strydom.
How many boosh events have you been to? – “Heritage day has been my first Boosh.”
What brings you back or brought you? – “My lovely friend Simoné invited me over (I am a resident of Pretoria, therefore unaware).”
Who were you excited to see? – “I was also unaware of the bands. I just got drunk under the tree with some friends. That was pleasant.”
Describe your heritage? – “That is a tricky one. My father is Afrikaans (kind of like a strict German vibe) and my mother is from Durbs. So she is chilled. I guess they cancelled each other out and I am left with a neutral heritage. Or no heritage, but that of a South African and my environment.”
Onyksi The Pixie.
How many Boosh events have you been to? – “‘I’ve been to quite a few Boosh events, I haven’t been keeping count..”
Why do you attend? – “I go because I’m a white girl and it’s kind of part of the job description. Lolz, for real though I go because they are fun and fabulous and filled with my friends.”
What does heritage mean to you? – “I’m Grottish, which is what happens when a Greek makes a baby with a Scot. But mostly I’m South African. I think heritage basically just refers to what you came from and why you is who you is.”
Jay.
How many boosh events have you been to? – “This was my first Boosh.”
What brings you back or brought you? – “I went because it sounded like a cool vibe and my friends said I’d probably enjoy it.”
Who were you excited to see? – “I was most looking forward to Go Barefoot and Shortstraw (my first time seeing them live).”
Describe your heritage? – “My heritage is mostly about being a part of the Born Free generation, being a South African in the age of equality and being able to experience a society that is progressively moving towards full equality and social peace. I often feel quite floating when it comes to my heritage, because I’m not very in touch with my culture, but our country’s history and desire for unity is what I would consider my heritage.”
