Matias Aguayo bringing El Rudo del House to South Africa

It is with delight that we announce that Cómeme label don, Matias Aguayo is coming to South Africa for the El Rudo del House tour hosted by Fuss favourites Broaden A New Sound under their Below The Bassline party brand in partnership with the Goethe-Institut and Red Bull Studios with media support from The Fuss.

In our last Sound Gallery we featured Broaden A New Sound kingpin, Riaan Botha. It was then that the event curator would initiate discussions with The Fuss about involving us as the official media partners for a tour which was at it’s early stages of planning. It all started when the other half of Broad A New Sound Colleen Balchin was on a ‘working’ holiday overseas. The working part of the trip involved laying the groundwork and creating connections with some of the international artists they wanted to bring down to South Africa. After laying down some footwork watching the captivating performance of Matias Aguayo at Robert Johnson Club in Offenbach; Colleen would proceed to lay down the groundwork and initiate the connection which led to the realisation of this tour.

Matias Aguayo Tour

Matias Aguayo has been broadening a new sound and escaping the norm ever since he released the underground anthem “Minimal” in 2008. The German-Chilean aural innovator will be bringing his spirited brand of vocal-rooted house music to South Africa for a three-week residency which will include club nights, a surprise pop-up party, studio visits, sessions, and workshops.

In an innovative and experimental resurgence of electronic music in South Africa, the arrival of Matias Aguayo represents a flagship moment for the Below The Bassline brand in their efforts to bring us future sounds from across the globe showcasing “only the most forward thinking sounds, delving deep into the underground to find the freshest productions and most interesting sounds for you to shake to.”

With the Johannesburg and Cape Town club nights scheduled for 28 February and 7 March, respectively, the tour is a precursor for the 16 March release of Aguayo’s El Rudo del House EP; the first in a series of four EP releases on Aguayo’s own Comeme label.

El Rudo Del House is apparently “an imaginary creature who speaks to you with a pitched-down voice and produces heavy house rhythms,” at least according to a press release. (It’s described by Aguayo himself as a “spirit.”) El Rudo is the force behind a series of four EPs from the Chilean-German artist, and the label says they sit between 2013’s The Visitor and last year’s Legende on Kompakt, stylistically.” – Resident Advisor
