Following the creative success of LV’s collaborative Sebenza LP with Spoek Mathambo, Ruffest and Okmalumkoolkat; Gerv Gordon (Born in Cape Town and based in London) split from the production trio and started producing solo under the moniker OKZharp. He met the mercurial Manthe Ribane when she was cast as the lead in experimental Ghost Diamond film written by Gerv himself and directed by Chris Saunders.
At the end of shooting when everyone involved in the film went out to celebrate, Gerv and Manthe stayed behind and started recording some vocals for OKZharp’s music. Three of the tracks made that evening made it onto the Dumela 113 EP and the duo followed that EP with the release of Tell Your Vision EP.
The Boiler Room video sees the two performing a few tracks from both EP’s. It’s Manthe gracefully wrestling OKZharp’s jarring and taut bass creations with her voice and her body. The performance reminds those who may have forgotten that music is meant to excite and surprise. Watch the Boiler Room performance below:
