Winter is almost coming to a close which means festival season is nearly upon us. With temperatures increasing, the great hibernation is over and students all over the country are scraping together money for the wealth of options available for live music entertainment. The festival industry is surging and it’s plain to see, with both premium and boutique festivals offering experiences suitable for any musical palette.
Grietfest is back for its sixth consecutive year as South Africa’s biggest one day electronic dance music festival. We were present last year at the festival’s first edition at it’s new home at the container yards in the middle of the industrial sector of Johannesburg. The new venue certainly added to the gritty underground essence of Grietfest and we’re pleased to know that the festival returns to this venue.
A great feat of Griet has been in their collaborations with the best advocates of electronic music in the Science Frikshun, Red Bull Studios and Fiction Nights collectives. These collaborations have positioned the festival favourably across all genres under the umbrella of electronic dance music. Regardless of your taste, there’ll be something on offer which is sure to be to your liking.
Together with Olmeca Tequila and Red Bull Studio GRIETFEST is back for it’s 6th consecutive year as SA’s biggest one day urban underground dance music festival. We will be hitting The Container Yards with a line up of sheer audio ecstasy with headliners Dimension (UK), Lektrique (Kannibalen Records / BEL) and Proxy (Turbo Records / RUS) as well as one of SA’s leading beat magicians SIBOT & TOYOTA. Join us this year for a day and a night of dance, friendship and unity in music in the industrial capital of Africa, Johannesburg!

Last year Griet was meant to be an afternoon experience. It was my cousin’s 30th birthday celebration that evening and the plan was to get a little taste of Griet and leave for the black-tie event in the early evening. Of course I was mistaken to think that once I was in the belly of the beast it would be easy to escape and attend the birthday celebration. Long story short, I ended up missing her celebration for Grietfest losing a ton of family brownie points in the process.
