State Of The Mieliepop
This year marks the seventh edition of Mieliepop which is almost as long as the number of years our former president served as the leader of South Africa. While there was relief following his resignation due to the downward trajectory of the nation, the flag of Mieliepop has only risen higher on the mast since its inauguration in 2011.
With more and more international event brands entering the country with a massive budget and the biggest international acts, the boutique festival has carved its own space amongst the top music festivals. Having built from the ground up, the locally produced festivals continues to wow revellers each year with all new to the festival resigning to return each year.
“Comrades, Our people deserve better… Our people deserve a weekend away with friends and family, a weekend with a diverse music line up covering all genres. Our people will rejoice when they arrive at our gates, when they enter our musical heaven, splash in our lakes and swimming pools and walk barefoot on our lush green grass. Showers to the people, hot showers for everyone! Let the people laugh on our comedy barge, let the people dance in our rave cave, let the people relax at our Willow Tree Stage, let the people boogie on our pool deck dance floor and finally let the people rock & roll at our main stage. Our promised land welcomes each and every individual with an open mind and love for music.” – Kernal Mieliepop
Mieliepop takes place at Tolderia Resort in Mpumalanga over 4 days starting on the 21st of March. On this occasion the event will host over 90 acts across 6 stages which sees it growing from the 60 acts across 5 stages last year. This year will also see the republic hosting international act DZ Deathrays alongside the well curated local line-up which includes the likes of Easy Freak, Hellcats, Trancemicsoul, Chee, Josh Kempen and more – offering something for every taste and encouraging the exploration across the barriers of genre.
