Listen to BOXER’s latest single “R2D2”

Nothing Major alumni BOXER are back with another punchy helping of BOX & ROLL. The band has been keeping real busy since their performance at Nothing Major alongside The Goldilox Zone. Their debut EP Six Feet Underman was released late into 2014 with the album’s title track being accompanied by dark and symbolic music video [link to music video echo]which saw the six feet underman visualized.

The band gigged extensively following the release of the EP and would eventually start their own event series called DANK. Ultimately, all their efforts culminated in a debut performance on the James Phillips stage at Oppikoppi.

Not to lose any of the momentum they had gained over the past year, the band decided to garner all their experience and drive they had gained by jumping into Studio in August to begin production and recording of their sophomore EP. The EP, titled Animals was recorded over a period of two months at Openroom Productions and Gloryvale Studios with Mike Wright of Zebra and Giraffe at the helm. The Animals EP was sent to the USA for mastering at SPECTRE by Troy Glesner.

“R2D2” is the first single off the Animals EP which is scheduled for release towards the end of the year. The high-tempo single brings some attitude to the sometimes tepid indie genre. It’s difficult not to get infected with delight when listening to the single and “R2D2” discloses that the band is here to have fun and they’re getting really good at drawing the listener into their ecstasy. The band assures me that it is a complete coincidence that the song is released around the same time that the latest Star Wars film is scheduled for release, but rather that they were influenced to write the song as a means of educating Jake, their guitarist, who had never watched any of the films in the series.
