Music Mavens join forces to carve A Place in the Sun

Five reasons why you should attend A Place In The Sun

Summertime is the time for pool parties, backyard braais, shorts and t-shirts. Summer is also the season of music festivals, as thousands of music fans flock to outdoor venues in flip-flops and bathed in sunscreen to see some of their favourite artists, and listen to their favourite genre of music while soaking in the experience. Whether you’re a trance junkie, a metal head, an indie rocker or electro bopper, there is no denying that music festivals are a pretty awesome way to spend a weekend in South Africa.

A Place In the Sun is put together by a weighted list of pro organisers: Gareth Wilson, Nicol Van den Berg and Jan Roode of the Good Luck Bar, Catherine Grenfell, previously from 5fm and Dawid and Henk Fourie, promoters of the notorious RAMfest Festival. Apart from providing an endless supply of sunshine and good sounds, festivals are fun, crazy and happy and they create memories you won’t soon forget; if you have never been to a music festival in the warm months, I urge you to attend A Place In The Sun.

Here are five reasons why you need to make plans to attend A Place In The Sun:

The Experience

There is just something about camping on a farm in the middle of nowhere, jamming out to some amazing sounds whilst being with your friends, meeting some friendly, weird strangers and partying till the sun comes up. Experiencing a music festival live is unlike any concert experience in the world. You get to be part of a new festival to the scene; you will be outside, breathing in fresh air and soaking in an atmosphere that is second to none.

Dress in Funky Festival Attire

You get to wear outfits you would normally not wear any other time of the year. If you have ever taken a look at the clothes people wear at festivals such as Rocking The Daisies, these are the outfits that will be acceptable at music festivals all over the country. There are no rules when it comes to summer festivals – in fact rules are meant to be broken, so come up with something creative and come and enjoy your place in the sun.

Change of outdoor scenery

One of the best reasons to attend A Place In The Sun is the joy of being outside the whole time during the event. You will be able to let the sun kiss your face, breathe in the fresh air as your favourite band rocks the stage for the music fans that will be among you. You get to take a quick plunge in the rock pools, sit under a tree and look at the waterfall. What more do you need?

Make new friends

Music festivals are attended by throngs of like-minded music fans, so if you see someone interesting, start up a conversation, who knows maybe you’ll meet some life long friends.

The Music

Remember you are attending A Place In The Sun for the music – you are there to support local bands and experience a festival that is still new to the music scene. The main reason why you should be attending the festival in the first place is because music just sounds so much better outside with wind blowing through your hair.

A magical world awaits us, a journey filled with music, camping and swimming. Making memories with friends and like-minded music lovers, dress-up alongside space aliens, indie rockers and come and discover a music universe like no other where all of us will find a place in the sun. After all this festival was created by the people for the people.

☼ THE BEATLES ☼ “Tomorrow Never Knows”

Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream
It is not dying, it is not dying

Lay down all thoughts, surrender to the void
It is shining, it is shining

Yet you may see the meaning of within
It is being, it is being

Love is all and love is everyone
It is knowing, it is knowing…

… that ignorance and hates may mourn the dead
It is believing, it is believing

But listen to the colour of your dreams
It is not living, it is not living

So play the game “Existence” to the end…
… Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning
