Collaboration between Mumford and Sons, Baaba Maal, The Very Best and Beatenberg

I remember, as closing time fell upon us, just when we were ready to skedaddle out there as quickly as we can. They redeemed themselves: Mumford and Sons brought on Beatenberg, Baaba Maal and The Very Best to perform a song, just one song, a glimpse into what they had planned for a large scale audience with a diverse range of people with versatile tastes in music, varied background and a collection of sounds. And since their concerts in South Africa, it seems they have been busy. ‘Wona’ is the first song of the collection of songs off the EP Johannesburg, which was recently launched in Joburg, and finally published online on 20 June. Leaning more towards the vocal compositions and strength of Baaba Maal and Beatenberg, as we stand in unity with true homegrown talent, the track is produced keeping each rhythm and harmony integral to their authentic artist song writing skills. And even though, I am not as excited as I was for Mumford and Sons as a decade ago, I’m excited for this: a collaboration that has no boundaries and no limit to its finished product. Salute.

If you like ‘Wona’, this will give you an indication of what can be heard on the EP.

Stream/ download/ share. Crossing genre boundaries and geographical terrains is no easy feat. Let us celebrate its results.
