A slobberknocker line-up awaits you

Having been a staple of the Red Bull music division for nearly 20 years and collaborated with more than 1,500 artists worldwide, the Red Bull Music Academy Weekender comes to Africa for the very first time with the three-day music extravaganza hitting Johannesburg. Taking place from 1 September to 4 September 2016, the RBMA Weekender Johannesburg will play host to no less than 60 acts from every genre covering everything from hip hop and reggae to electro and house music.

The festival will take place in seven music venues across three locations in and around Johannesburg to provide concert goers with a full range of options to either attend standalone events or go the full monty and do the entire four day experience.

We kick things off on Thursday at Baseline in Newtown with Admiral & Jahseed’s legendary ‘Reggae Nights’. African Storm Sound themselves will be on hand with some special guests, along with Teedo and DJ X Angel. Friday is a slobberknocker with three different line-ups at three different venues. Kanan K7 & Dogg Starr at AND Club in Newtown, Mashayabhuqe Ka Mamba and Jumping Back Slash at Kitcheners in Braamfontein, Maramza and the legendary Thebe right next door at Great Dane.

Saturday is the big humdinger with 7-piece New Zealand band Fat Freddy’s Drop headlining the main event at 1Fox in Newtown alongside Moonchild Sanelly and Hip Hop Prince AKA. The venue will also offer the unique experience of having two shows happen simultaneously on different floors, as if deciding who to see during this festival wasn’t hard enough.

BET award-winning globetrotter Black Coffee will close out the weekender in style at Zone 6 Venue in Diepkloof, Soweto alongside his one-time protege Culoe De Song and hip hop heavyweights Kid X, Youngsta, Stilo Magolide and Riky Rick.

Red Bull has really stepped up its game as a premium entertainment and lifestyle brand over the last three or so years and continue to deliver world class caliber events consistently. Anticipation is high and it promises to be a fun 4-days of music and dancing.
