Jacob Israel performs ‘How Wolves Change Rivers

Transcendence beyond service

There is a transience experimentation of linear portals and static frequencies shadowing the foreground with its residual space lifts. Sedating, than shifting, the performance starts with sound as a companion. Joined by Israel’s wife, Ola Kobak, the pair watch out for visual cues when to partner and when to move forwards in contrast.

The visuals accompanying the sounds elevate the listener into a higher consciousness warping around the stage collapsing from left to right, leaving the viewer mesmerized by its confluence. I can’t help but feel the rising envy in its realness and that I am not there to witness it growing. Israel looks natural and reaffirmed by his production process. He is the music, and the music, him.

The performance was filmed and edited by Enaba Productions in collaboration with Dizzy Khaki, at the Wêreld Records launch in Pretoria, South Africa with live sound by Audiotorch.

In this set, it focuses on the symmetry between part man, part machine, where Israel re-circuits sound waves to existence.

Wêreld Records is a community of South African artists that are working together to create beautiful and provocative music and visual art, largely beyond the reach of mainstream conveyor belts. The eclectic armada of Wêreld members share an intimidating range of skill-sets and already boast diverse bodies of work.

Carefully reconsidering the connections between artist, artwork and perceiver, and constantly reinventing how and where live music can be performed and received, Wêreld was dreamed up and instigated by Jaco van der Merwe (of Bittereinder and Walkie Talkie) in the infamous and unpredictable city of Pretoria, South Africa, in 2015.
